jeff purvis

Lead Pastor

Jeff Purvis grew up in South St. Louis city and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1974.
While attending Missouri Baptist University in Creve Coeur, Missouri, Jeff served as the
Minister of Youth & Recreation at Tower Grove Baptist Church, his home church. He then moved to Houston, Texas in 1978 to attend Southwestern Theological Seminary.
Jeff is in his 41st year in the ministry and has served as an Associate Pastor in Lakeland, FL, Columbia, MD, Kearney, MO, as well as a Senior Pastor at Westport Community Church in St. Louis County and since March of 2007, he has been our Senior Pastor.
Jeff has led several mission trips to Matamoros, Mexico and has a heart for evangelism and missions. He desires to preach and teach God’s Word in such a way that you understand God’s Word, believe God’s Word and have a desire to live out God’s Word. Jeff is a diehard sports fan, especially St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues hockey. He has served on several different committees and boards on the local, state and national levels within the Southern Baptist Convention.
Jeff and Lucy have been married since 1990 and have three children – Noah, Madelynn and Jonah.

Scott Herman

Associate Pastor

Scott grew up in the Wichita, Kansas area Scott worked in retail management and the construction and roofing industry for many years. His job placed him at many different locations throughout the country. While working retail and earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Scott met his wife Megan. The two married in May of 2010, and they have two wonderful children together.
Scott answered the call here at First Baptist Church Herculaneum-Pevely in March of 2018 as the Associate Pastor of Evangelism & Community Outreach, and has since accepted the call as the Children's and Youth Minister. Since accepting the call, Scott has successfully spearheaded such outreach programs as Saturate U.S.A., the FBCHP Annual Harvest Festival, and several other initiatives within the communities of Pevely and Herculaneum. Scott also obtained is Masters Degree in Theological Studies at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2019.

Melissa Schultz

Office Secretary

Melissa joined the team in 2022 as the Office Administrator. She has been a great addition to the FBCHP Staff. Melissa grew up right here in the area and graduated High School from Twin City Christian Academy in Festus, Mo. Melissa went on to Jefferson College where she obtained her Associate of Arts Degree. Melissa also obtained her Bachelor of Science in Teaching from Southeast Missouri State and her MAT, Master of Arts in Teaching at Webster University.
Prior to moving to our team at FBCHP, Melissa served at Dunklin R5 School District for 28 years where she taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade.
